Onboarding instructions for Boost Scholar Level 1 certification in Adaptive Leadership for immunization

Uncategorized May 25, 2020

(This video tutorial shows the most important step of onboarding - how to join the course website. )

The following onboarding instructions should only be used by selected participants who received their Letter of Acceptance to participate in the Boost Scholar Level 1 certification in Adaptive Leadership for immunization.

There are four steps required to “onboard” (prepare) for the course.

  • You are required to complete these steps before Orientation Week starts on 1 June 2020.
  • We estimate that these steps typically require less than 30 minutes to complete.

1. Discover the five web services that you will use in this course

In this course, we will be using five web services as tools to support learning:

  1. Learning.foundation is the course website where you can find everything you need to complete the course. You can work in it at any time, from anywhere. See Step 2 below.
  2. Peergrade is the platform to submit your work and peer review others’ work in this course. The code and instructions on how to join will be shared during Week 1 on the course website when you submit your Week 1 assignment.
  3. ZOOM Webinars (download) is the software that we will use to meet for live sessions in this course. As an accepted participant, you have been registered by the course team to all the live sessions in this course, including the mandatory weekly discussion group and the optional daily Balcony calls and Accompanist support sessions. Before each session takes place, you will receive email reminders from the Scholar team with the link to join the session. You can learn more about the live sessions in this course on learning.foundation.
  4. Boost Community (live feed) is where you can connect with your peers and discuss course content with your peers and the course team. See step 4 below.
  5. Telegram (download) is used for instant messaging. During onboarding, you will receive important messages from the course team. Once you have installed Telegram on your phone and computer, click here to join the Boost Scholars (Announcements) channel to receive announcements…

2. Join the course website on learning.foundation

We recommend that you view the video tutorial above to complete this step.

  • In the email address you used to apply for the course, locate the email you received from the Geneva Learning Foundation titled “Your New Scholar Account: [Your full name]”. This email contains the username and password for you to join the course website.
  • Copy and paste the username and password to log into the course website on learning.foundation.
  • Ensure that you can recall this combination of username and password to log in to the course website later on.
  • In case you forget your password later in the course, use this link to reset your password.

If you have done a Scholar course before and already have an account on learning.foundation, please log into the course website using your existing account.

This is what you will see when you first log in to the course website:

Click on the red button "OPEN NOW" as shown above to view the course dashboard. The course dashboard is where you will find your tasks and assignments for the course.

3. Once you are in learning.foundation, join the Chat group for course participants on Telegram

  • In learning.foundation, you will find a post with instructions to join the "Boost Scholars (Chat)" group on Telegram reserved only for course participants (Click here to see the post. If you can not see the content of this post, you have not joined learning.foundation. Please see Step 2).
  • This group is different from the "Boost Scholars (Announcements)" channel you joined in Step 1 to receive announcements from the course team.
  • In this Chat group, you will be able to send messages to other course participants and the course team.

We will use Telegram intensively during onboarding and orientation. Once the course work starts, you are solely responsible for staying up-to-date.
