Facilitator job description: Gender in emergencies
The role of the facilitator
We are seeking an experienced bilingual facilitator to support our new Certificate peer learning programme for gender in emergencies.
The facilitator acts as a "guide on the side," creating and holding a safe, supportive, and critically reflective learning space.
The primary role is to guide participants as they use their own firsthand experiences to build knowledge together, applying feminist and decolonial pedagogical principles.
What you will do
- Guide reflective dialogue. You will facilitate small group and plenary discussions, using thoughtful questions to help participants deepen their analysis of power and systems of inequality.
- Support the peer learning process. You will guide participants through our structured peer review process, helping them to give and receive feedback that contributes to collective learning.
- Synthesize insights. You will listen deeply to participant contributions and help the community identify common patterns, key insights, and emerging questions.
- Hold a safe and brave space. You will model and maintain a learning environment where practitioners from all backgrounds feel respected, heard, and able to engage honestly with difficult topics.
- Contribute to learning and adaptation. You will work with the programme team to reflect on what is working and how to continuously improve the learning experience.
What we are looking for
- Deep domain expertise and experience. You have significant professional experience in gender in emergencies, with practical field experience in topics such as GBV risk mitigation, Rapid Gender Analysis (RGA), gender mainstreaming, and the application of gender markers.
- Your approach is grounded in an intersectional, feminist, and decolonial analysis.
- Proven facilitation skills. You have experience facilitating reflective and critical conversations with diverse groups of adult professionals. You are skilled at asking powerful questions, not just providing answers.
- Full professional fluency in English and French. You must be able to facilitate complex, nuanced discussions in both languages with confidence.
- Commitment to our pedagogical model. You believe that frontline practitioners are the experts in their own reality and are passionate about creating learning environments that challenge traditional knowledge hierarchies.
- Willingness to learn and apply new competencies. You are open to being trained in and applying The Geneva Learning Foundation's specific facilitation competencies, which are based on our unique learning theory.
- High emotional intelligence. You are an empathetic listener, skilled at navigating sensitive topics and managing group dynamics with care and respect.
