258 health workers. 1,534 real stories. One question: how do we turn the tide against malaria?
In Teach to Reach 16, the Geneva Learning Foundation gives back what the community discovered – the first learning from the inaugural “Malaria: Turning the Tide” peer learning course, where 258 health workers from 24 countries, 59 regions and 110 health zones shared 1,534 field stories and exchanged 4,133 messages.
You will hear health workers say things you rarely hear in a webinar:
- Families almost always see someone else first – 217 of 258 stories describe a pharmacy, street seller, traditional healer or health hut before the health centre
- A bed net used for fishing is not ignorance – it is a choice between eating today and being safe tomorrow
- Train instead of punish: one health worker in Guinea moved from inspection to ongoing training, and referral of severe cases improved
- A simple follow-up phone call turns a net someone owns into a net that gets used
- Dr Faiza Rabbani on early surgical menopause at 36, and the “data cliff” that leaves women after 49 invisible in health data
